Sydney 4 - The Grounds of Alexandria

If you can only visit one cafe during your Sydney trip, it has to be the top-rated the Grounds of Alexandria. Most people would probably have heard about it before given it's frequently featured by influencers or travel bloggers. My verdict? It's so gorgeous and is definitely the right place for those who are photo-minded. As a nature lover, I particularly like the open garden concept where you are surrounded by lush greenery, complemented by sufficient dose of sunlight.

Address: Building 7A, 2 Huntley St, Alexandria, NSW, 2015.
Opening hours: Varying timings depending on which one you go (the Cafe, the Potting Shed or the Garden). Please refer to the website.

Food

First of all, the menu in the Cafe is largely similar to its sister cafe, the Grounds of City. Personally, I prefer Alexandria better in terms of ambiance and photo opportunities. City is a cramped, bustling indoor cafe that gets busy all the times. However, location wise, City is winning as it's strategically located in city centre (as the name suggests) and can be easily combined with other attractions nearby. My review on the Ground of City can be accessed here. If you still decide to visit both Alexandria and City, my suggestion is to try out the dishes from the Potting Shed or the Garden instead for something different, while you can still explore the entire place as they are inter-connected.

Spot the seasonal Maleficent cake!

Lemon meringue tart. It tasted as delicious as it looked.

Big breakfast and iced coffee. We like how the ice cubes were made of coffee so that the drink wouldn't become diluted as time passed on.

Photospots

Colourful market stalls and red phonebooth
These are easy to spot as they are located right outside the Cafe area.

The romantic floral shop
What's better than fresh flowers as backdrop? :) These lovely babies never fail to make me smile.

Gorgeous flower displays with a myriad of blooms.

Festive special installations
Alexandria replaces its seasonal decorations every once in a while. Our visit was in end October and the cafe was beautifully decorated according to the Halloween theme, the Black Queen Maleficent. (That reminded me about the recently released Maleficent 2 movie, which was quite enjoyable!)

While my outfit didn't match the theme, I liked the fact that my face looked creepy owing to the greenish lighting.

The Garden area
The fountain within the Garden area under the bougainvillea laced arbour is the most popular photo place, in which I don't have to explain much. I think it will make such a romantic place for wedding lunch, just saying. Apart from the fountain, there are multiple hidden spots around the Garden area that are Instagram-friendly, as highlighted in my photos below.

The spiral staircase is made for those who are looking for a princessy shots with your maxi dress.

Bonus round - Green Square Library
If you are taking train to Alexandria, you have to alight at Green Square station. Located just next to it, there's a secret (not so secret anymore) photo place, where you can find rainbow-coloured books on the shelves. Yes, I know we will feel extremely excited looking at these colours. However, please be considerate by keeping you voice low while snapping photos in the reading room.
