This post will list all the food places we visited by location for your ease of reference. Overall, we were very satisfied with the food quality in Bali, to be honest, the taste was beyond my expectation. Well, as a girl born in Malaysia (also renowned as a food paradise), I could be quite picky about food sometimes!
Seminyak/Kuta
Cafe Moka
Address: Jl. Raya Basangkasa, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 7am to 9pm daily
Let's start with some some good breakfast or brunch options. First up is Cafe Moka. Upon arrival at our villa, the owner gave us a long list of must-eat food around our villa and Cafe Moka was one of them.
Eggs Benedict with avocado, simply one of the best that I ever had in my life!
Opening hours: 8am to 10.30pm daily
Our villa owner had been advertising hard to us, citing how good the food was and we had to try it during our stay. Well, it was literally 5-min walk from our villa, why not? It is a cozy, beautifully decorated cafe. We visited on a Sunday morning and surprising it wasn't crowded. In addition, they were having a promotion on brunch during weekends from 10am onwards (I believe so) - IDR100,000 for anything in the "breakfast and brunch" menu and a choice of coffee or tea. This was so so so wallet-friendly!
Nothing better than starting my day with a cup of hot latte.
Big Breakfast (IDR 110,000 if without promotion). The portion was too generous that I couldn't finish my share.
Address: l. Batu Belig Gg. Daksina No.1, Kerobokan Kelod, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 8am to 7pm daily
Famous for their floating breakfast, this place has become a must-visit destination for many Instagrammers or influencers. The employees here were very friendly and helpful. They kept offering the photography service to us, haha, and they did take good photos!
You should come in your swimsuit if you intend to order the floating breakfast.
Managed to snap a photo of this, looking so good!
Our favourite photo spot.
Okay, I shall stop cheating. This is what I ordered on that day. The Tropical Power Bowl that came with a whole avocado 😁😁😁
Warung Babi Guling Pak Malen
Address: Jalan Sunset Road No.554, Seminyak, Kuta, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 8.30am to 7pm daily
We shall move on to lunch/dinner options in Bali. I have to admit that my first meal in Bali literally blew my mind. I planned for a second visit before I left the country. However, there was just too much good food in Bali and we didn't have the opportunity due to time constraint. Will definitely travel back to Bali for more (this shall emphasize how much I love this dish). Anyway, this "warung" or small restaurant only serves one dish - babi guling or suckling pig. It came with rice, crispy pork skin, grilled pork, and some spicy paste. You can always request for non-spicy or less spicy version if you have a lower tolerance to spiciness. Highly recommend!
One set costs IDR 52,500.
Warung Sunset
Address: Jl. Sunset Road, Legian, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 11am to 11pm daily
Instead of the renowned Naughty Nuri's, our driver recommended a cheaper (he claimed that it's equally good) alternative that located not far away from our villa. We listened to his advice and yes, the ribs were tender, succulent and flavourful. If I was given a chance, I would love to try Naughty Nuri's to compare and establish the quality difference.
Compared to the yummy pork ribs, the nachos had let us down, mainly because they were overly salty to our liking.
Nachos.
Full BBQ ribs. You can choose to have 2 flavours on each half of the slab.
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong 28, Badung, Bali, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 11am to 11pm daily
Looking for delicious fish dishes? This is the right place for you. While all four of us ordered different dishes, we were equally impressed, even though I have forgotten what the rest ordered on that day (no photos to refresh my memories).
Love the vibe and interior decorations here! :)
Mixed sugar cane juice. I like how Indonesians always add lime and mint leaves to balance the sweetness of sugar cane.
Chowder soup that came with red snapper cubes. Exceptionally creamy and flavourful. A great comfort food.
Address: Jl. Raya Seminyak, Seminyak, Kuta, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 10am to 12am daily
Once again, I was impressed (sorry, I know I have said this multiple times in this post). All four of us took the risk and ordered the signature "nasi campur" or mixed rice. Happy to find out later that we made the right choice. The chilli was da bomb! Even for a non-spicy lover like me finished all the chilli. What made the whole dining experience even better was the traditional Balinese dance performance that starts at ~7.30pm every day.
Nasi campur special (IDR 68,000). Love the fact that I could try different dishes in one meal.
Ubud
Bebek Bengil Crispy Duck
Address: Padang Tegal, Jl. Hanoman, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 10am to 10pm daily
Personally, I think this restaurant doesn't require any additional promotion here as it appears in almost everyone's to-do-list in Bali. While I think the price range fell at the higher end, it unquestionably lived up to our expectation. Must-try!
Look at the coconut! My first time seeing this kind of decoration, nice!
Very crispy duck, the goodness that deserves fingers licking.
Jimbaran
New Moon Cafe
Address: Jl. Pantai Kedonganan, Kedonganan, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
Opening hours: 10am to 12am daily
I would say this seafood dinner was a disappointment, specifically on the quality of the grilled fish. The fish didn't taste fresh and came with mild fishy taste, which was not something that we would expect from such an "atas" seafood restaurant. However, the concept of dining on the beach is certainly lovely and attractive. Other dishes were decent though. You will also be entertained by the dance performances put up by the locals.
Overall, I do enjoy having my meal while listening to the waves. However, as there are a lot of other restaurants along the same beach have the same dining concept, I might skip this one and give others a try! For me, fresh seafood should be the key highlight for any seafood restaurants!
Bali is truly a heaven for all the food lovers! Apart from the seafood dinner in Jimbaran that was rather disappointing (I guess it was meant for the ambiance!), all other food places that we tried out served amazing food! If I could only name one winner from this trip, my absolute favourite will be the crispy dirty duck, with babi guling coming close at the second! :) I was already thinking about my next trip to Bali even before I left the island...
