Langkawi
Transport
It is impossible to navigate around Langkawi without a car. We rented our car from i1rentcar website. There were a total of 5 of us and we went for Toyota Vios. The rental fare for 24 hours was RM125 (pick-up at airport and return at Kuah Jetty as we would be taking ferry from jetty to Koh Lipe). The car was quite new and we had no issues with it.
Accommodation
Located near Cenang Beach, Lavigo Resort offers comfortable stay that meets requirements of different types of travelers, be it couple, group of friends or big family. As a group of five, we went for standard quadruple room (RM56/person). It was actually two rooms connected to each other and was able to fit in up to 6 people, but it came with only one bathroom.
The very fertile papaya tree. Could I steal one? (Just kidding.)
Lovely place to chill and relax at night. Grab your drinks and have a heart-to-heart-talk.
Oriental Village
You can just spend a full day exploring this place as it offers a lot of fun activities - definitely the place to go for when you are planning a family trip. Whether you are into shopping, sightseeing or spending time with cute animals, you can get your dreams fulfilled here. It is also the home to the most sought-after attractions - skycab and sky bridge!
We purchased the RM105 package, inclusive of glass-bottom cable car ride (which allows you to admire the breathtaking view in 360 degrees), SkyRex (dinosaur-themed 3D indoor ride), 3D Art Musuem (the world second largest 3D museum, featuring 9 galleries, the best one out of so many I had visited) and SkyDome (unfortunately closed on the day we went). However, you need to top up another RM5 to access to SkyBridge (or RM15 if you want to skip the 15-min walk). Don't forget to catch the amazing light show in 3D Museum, available hourly with last showcase time at 7pm.
OH YEAH, did I forget to mention the bunny garden? Cuteness overloaded. So many rabbits and you can even hold them and take photos with them. Guess what? Free of charge! Of course, you can buy some carrots to feed these cute little creatures!
The shopaholic was extremely excited.
Food
Orkid Ria Restaurant
Address: Lot 1225, Pantai Cenang, Mukim Kedawang, 07100 Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia.
One of the highest rated restaurants in Langkawi. When you pay a visit to an island, what will you expect? Fresh and affordable seafood, of course! Love the steamed fish here, but I felt that their dishes tasted slightly salty, perhaps it's just my personal preference.
Steamed Tiger Grouper. 清蒸老虎斑 (RM13/kg).
Putumayo Restaurant
Address: Lot 1584 Jalan Pantai Chenang Mukim Kedawang, Pantai Chenang, 07000 Pulau Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia.
This restaurant is reputed to serve fresh seafood and offer nice ambiance. I love their salted egg crabs, the only complaint was the crab meat shrunk! The owner is a very friendly uncle, who would be more than willing to share traveling trips with you!
Salted Egg Crabs (RM15/kg).
Teo Restaurant
Address: No. 30, Pusat Dagangan Kelana Mas, Kedah, 07000 Kuah, Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia.
Must-try dishes when you visit this place are salted-egg crabs (yeah, we cannot live/leave without crabs!). As compared to the seafood restaurants above, this one is less touristy, a place that the locals will actually dine in. And best of all, the price is very affordable.
La Chocolatine
Address: No 3 Jalan Teluk Baru, Pantai Tengah, Langkawi 07000, Malaysia.
It is a cute little pastry shop owned by a French. Be expected to taste yummy desserts and enjoy good coffees, you won't be disappointed. I fell in love with the hot chocolate served, unlike the milky ordinary hot chocolate else where, you can really taste real cocao here! So thick and aromatic.
The very helpful and friendly French owner.
Salmon Quiche.
Baked Custard.
Premium hot chocolate.
Mushroom omelette.
OOTD - Maxi dress from MFW
Koh Lipe
Transport
Two Langkawi departure locations are available: Kuah Jetty which offers ferry service all year round and Telaga Harbour, in which ferry transfers are usually only available from early October to early June (the exact period varies from year to year). The departure time from Langkawi is at 9.30am and 2.30pm daily. The trip will take around 1.5 hours. Remember to bring your passport along! You are also required to complete an immigration card for custom clearance.
For the return trips from Koh Lipe, ferry departs at 11am and 4pm daily to Kuah Jetty whereas departure time to Telaga Harbour is at 10.30am and 4pm respectively. The trip costs around RM110 per way. Langkawi time is one hour ahead of Koh Lipe, please bear in mind the time difference. We purchased our ticket through Fave with some discounts.
Another tip is to travel light as you may need to step in water with your luggage in hands as the long tail boats might not stop at the pier.
**The time quoted is based on local time of the departure country.
Accommodation
Mama Resort
Sorry but I wouldn't recommend this place at all. The location was okay for the price we paid (it's located at Koh Lipe Walking Street, about 5-min walk away from Sunrise Beach). The problem was the water supply and hygiene. Imagine that you spend whole day on the beach and are looking forward to clean yourself up, then "gosh, no water supply!" The feeling was horrible. Couldn't find someone to fix it as the receptionist was only available from 8am to 8pm. Sigh, we didn't even have water to wash up in the morning before catching the sunrise.
Attractions
Snorkeling Tour
We signed up the Sunset Tour with Paradise Tour. It costs us 1000 baht per person for a private tour of 5 people from 3.30pm to 8.30pm, inclusive of long tail boat ride, snorkeling equipment, life jackets, food and water. We started with a snorkeling trip at Jabang, followed by photos taking at Koh Hing Nam, sunset BBQ at Koh Adang and lastly a night swim with glowing plankton. Lovely experience though there was a delay of the trip.
Koh Hing Nam
We filled our empty stomachs with appetizing BBQ chickens and fresh salad after the tiring snorkeling trip.
Koh Lipe Walking Street
You can find a wide range of food and merchandises here, not forgetting the Thai massage service. We had our foot scrub + massage at Sabye Sabye Massage Place (Sabye means comfortable in Thai) at 400 baht.
Sunrise Beach
Another must-do thing in Koh Lipe is catching the beautiful sunrise at Sunrise Beach (as the name suggests). You will see a lot of tourists crowding on the beach, waiting for the sunrise. Just find your ideal spot and enjoy the amazing view.
Food
You get a wide selection of Thai food along Koh Lipe Walking Street, from street food such as grilled pork, fried ice-cream, Thai pancake to proper meals in restaurants. Ah, I am missing them now!
Goodbye! I don't think I will return to this place any soon but thanks for leaving good memories in my life.
