Looking for some countryside experience in Singapore? Two-day-and-one-night stay in D'Kranji Farm Resort might be an ideal option. We got our deal from Fave. It was slightly inconvenient to travel around without a car, but transportation shouldn't be a big issue as shuttle buses are available daily (including transfer from/to Kranji MRT station). Just check the timings properly and you are good to go. However, the frequency is low so try not to miss it. The bus fare is $3/person/roundtrip. Please retain your ticket to hop on and off if you are planning to visit multiple places using the bus within a day. Click here for the bus schedule.
Accommodation
We stayed in Stanadrd Villa. The bathroom adopts open-air concept and you can basically admire the sky while taking a shower or doing your "business".
While waiting for the shuttle van.
Our complimentary breakfast that came with the stay.
Attractions
Our first stop was Bollywood Veggies, a sanctuary away from the bustle and hustle of the city. It will make a good excursion spot for young children and students to learn about nature and farming in a real environment. There are also a number of activities available on requests such as guided farm tour, terrarium making and kampung race. Check out their website to look for more information. You can also purchase fresh farm produce here, totally organic and free from harmful chemicals. If you are into photography, there are a couple of good photo spots as well.
Wooden signboards with interesting messages can be found everywhere.
Enjoying the lush greenery here very much.
Sugar cane plantation.
Poison Ivy Bistro
Had our best meal during the trip here. The interior design is fun and coulourful, giving the "boho" vibe. Note the closing time of Bollywood Veggies and Poison Ivy Bistro as they are closed pretty early. We ordered the Warrior's Platter for sharing. You get to sample multiple dishes, including the creamy curry chicken, tempura, fried fish, mixed veggies etc. The food here was quite up to standard and priced reasonably, would definitely recommend to drop by if you happen to visit Bollywood Veggies. Check out the menu here.
Warrior's Platter, $20 for two persons.
Prawning
Warn you ahead, there is no wifi available in the area. Hence, it was kinda boring at night (oops, I am such a city girl). We should have downloaded movies before heading in. Another activity to kill your time is prawning. Not sure if it was due to beginner's luck, we got our first Blue Claw Prawn within the first 10 mins. But.... we weren't that lucky for the remaining 1 hour, zzz. However, this kind uncle (seemed like a regular customer here) gave away all his prawns to us!!! Yay, so we got BBQ prawns as supper! The staff here taught us how to handle the prawns, skewer and grill them to perfection.
Look at these! So proud of ourselves. Joking joking, most of them were given by the friendly uncle.
Mouth-watering.
Advertised as the only goat farm in Singapore, Hay Dairies is the place you wouldn't want to miss when you visit Kranji area. Easily accessible by shuttle bus service from our villa, we reached here early in the morning to catch the milking process (it is from 9am to 10.30am daily, the farm is closed on every Tues). You can also buy the hay from the counter and feed the cute goats. I am sure that kids are going to love this! Afterwards, try their fresh goat milk that comes in original and chocolate flavours. Personally I quite like the stronger taste of the milk as compared to ordinary cow milk.
There are other places where you can explore such as Sungai Buloh Wetland Reserve. Have fun spending time with nature! It will be a great escape from crowds in Singapore =)
