Singapore - Cafes review (Nov 2018)

Hello everyone! As an ultimate cheapskate lady, my phone is equipped with multiple cost-saving apps, including Eatigo and Fave to look for good deals. I am having a lot of fun from exploring new places that offer good discounts using these apps.

Here're my reviews of some food places that we had explored for the past 1 month. :) The prices stated here are prior to discounts, please apply the corresponding % discounts to estimate the final prices. Of note, Eatigo discount usually does not apply to drinks and exclude tax and service charges.

(+) Nice ambiance, healthy food options
(-) Nothing in particular

Love this cozy cafe located in National Gallery Singapore. The cafe adopts an open-area concept with simple and chic decorations. I could sit at a quiet corner and spend my morning reading a novel or watching some videos. The food was good, especially the roast chicken. Wish we had additional stomach for the desserts as they looked incredibly good!

National Gallery itself is such a lovely place. Loving my top from Airspace and my tulle skirt from Lust.

This little corner of the cafe is absolutely perfect for photos with the warm natural light shimmering on you.

Garden green ($8). Very light and healthy dish.
Mushroom pasta ($15).
Spiced roast chicken ($17). A well-balanced dish with flavourful chicken leg and healthy greens.
Tea pot for sharing ($6)

(+) In-house alcohol deals (but not included in Eatigo)
(-) Limited food options, inaccessible location, long waiting time

It took us quite a while to locate the place. You have to walk through some dark alleys in an industrial area before reaching the building from the nearest bus stop. Will not encourage young ladies to come alone as the walk could be rather scary in the dark.

Speaking of this place, it is definitely a place for drinker and gamer, haha. What I meant was the alcohols here were relatively cheap? They also have dart machines for people to kill their time. The food was way better than what we'd expected. However, the choices of main dishes were very limited.

Homelicious Spicy Chicken Pizza ($13). The spiciness was not a joke for people who have low tolerance like us. We could barely finish the pizza.

Soup of the day ($4). Not bad but the bread cubes on top were too oily.

Spam fries ($12). My favourite of the day. The yellow sauce was spot-on!

Albert Cafe and Restaurant

(+) Nice ambiance, big food portion,
(-) Poor service, ordinary taste

It's located inside Village hotel. Albert Cafe's decor is reminiscent of Old English times, with quaint furnishings and colonial windows, making it an ideal backdrop for nice photos.

What frustrated us the most was the attitude of the waitress. Her impatience was probably because she was the only one on duty in that afternoon. We waited at the entrance for a while before she came to us. We were told that the waiting time would be longer (approximately an hour or so???) as there were two other groups of diners and the crew was really busy. I was kinda stunned because the two groups she mentioned were already having their meals and the restaurant was barely occupied with just two tables of guests.

The food options here were kinda limited. We ordered a mushroom soup for sharing, grilled steak for him and grilled salmon steak for me. The food portion was big, probably the most positive thing I experienced so far.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The food was so-so only and the service was not up to the standard for the prices on the menu.

The cafe was extremely quiet with us being the only guests here.

While waiting for my food to come.

Mushroom soup ($6.90). Served with garlic breads. It tasted like Campbell soup, unfortunately.

Ribeye steak ($24.90). Big piece of meat and the sauce was tasty. However, the side dishes were rather ordinary and uninspiring.

Grilled salmon steak ($23.90). The salmon was slightly overcooked and tasted dry.

Lastly, I would like to introduce this little cafe, Lowercase at Lasalle College of the Arts. As I was craving for caffeine, we decided to look for a decent cafe nearby after our meal at Albert Cafe and Restaurant (didn't trust the coffee quality there). And we found this on our way to Bugis MRT station!

Lowercase Cafe
Address: Blk D #01-01, 1 McNally St, Singapore 187940.
Opening hours: Mon to Fri - 9am to 9pm; Sat: 10am to 9pm; Sun: 10am to 3pm
Don't forget to flash your student card (any will do) for 10% discount here! No deals from Eatigo, sorry!

(+) Nice ambiance, free WI-FI, lovely interior design (with the industrial vibe)
(-) Nothing in particular

Yet, the coffee was sold out and my craving did not satisfy. Sigh. I was happy with the Passionfruit dessert... Would love to visit again to try out more dishes!
