As a KL "lang" for my whole lifetime, to be honest, I had never explored the beauty of this city properly. Bringing my Singaporean friends back for a short trip, I finally had the chance/excuse to travel around like a real tourist! I was actually pretty excited about the idea. Let me show you where had we been and how much fun we had!
Transport
Driving is the easiest way to travel around KL though you may occasionally get stuck in the horrible traffic jam! Avoid peak hours if possible. Public transport system is not as comprehensive and convenient as Singapore. But if you just want to focus on the main attractions such as KL Tower, Petronas Twins Tower, National Mosque or Petaling Street, you can still rely on public transport such as LRT, MRT or even the hop-on-hop-off bus!
Batu Caves
Hey, it is just located 10-min drive away from my house and yet I had not been there before, so shameful to call myself a KL resident. As my friend was still recovering from her knee injury, we didn't climb the steep 272 steps to the top. I will conquer the staircase and see the cave temple next time. After taking sufficient amount of photos, we "rewarded" ourselves with fresh coconut juice.
Totally in love with the vibrant colours.
Hey dear monkey.
Refreshing coconut juice to quench your thirst.
You can see stalls selling flower garlands everywhere. Indian flower garlands serve as a symbol of spirituality, honour and respect.
Palace/Istana Negara
It serves as the official residence for the King of Malaysia. Change of guard occurs at 12pm daily. We just dropped down for some photos, haha.Lunch at Petaling Street
I wouldn't say it is a shopping heaven because locals like us do not shop there. Of note, if you are looking for cheap bouquets for special occasions, this is a good place to go, I got my carnation bouquet here at about RM50 for my mum and I thought it was a good deal. I also wrote a post on Merchant Lane Cafe near Petaling Street. Click here to read it! Other food recommendation includes Hokkien Mee from Kim Lian Kee and Hon Kee porridge. Don't forget to grab some traditional pastry from Fung Wong Confectionery.
Traditional Hokkien Mee from Kim Lian Kee.
Your trip to Petaling Street wouldn't be complete without some sweet treats Fung Wong Confectionery. They are famous for traditional wedding biscuits. I love red bean paste flavour.
National Mosque/Masjid Negara
Opening hours: 6.30am to 1pm; 2.30pm to 4pm; 5.30pm to 7pm
Salam sejahtera! Our next stop was National Mosque. The roof design of the mosque is unique unlike the typical round one, it looks like a folded umbrella. In order to enter the mosque, you are required to dress up to show your respect. I find that this is quite a cool place to take Insta-worthy photos but the weather was too torturing that we didn't stay long. I was sweating profusely underneath the gown.
The interior design is equally stunning.
KL Tower and Upside Down House
Kl Observation Deck
Opening hours: 9am to 10pm daily
Entrance ticket: RM71 for Malaysians; RM99 for non-Malaysians
Skipped this one because we thought that night view would be more beautiful but we didn't have sufficient time to stay til late.
Upside Down House
Opening hours: 9am to 7pm daily
Entrance ticket: RM18 for Malaysians; RM23 for non-Malaysians
One of the latest attraction. This is a fun place for family and kids to play around and take funny photos. The house was quite small, thus it would be difficult to take good photos if it is crowded with tourists. We were lucky enough as it's a weekday and there weren't a lot of people around.
Petronas Twins Tower
Don't tell others that you visited Malaysia before if you have never been to this place before. I love to admire its view from the park in front of Suria KLCC mall.
