Accommodation
Railay is divided into Railay East and Railay West. You can take long tail boat from Ao Nang Beach to Railay West, but to take note that there isn't a proper pier in Railay West and thus you will have to trudge through water with your luggages. Alternatively, you can take a similar boat ride from Ao Nam Mao Pier to Railay East, where you can alight at a proper pier. Each trip will cost 100 Baht per person. If you have to travel at odd hours, you can also rent a boat at 800 baht. So what's the difference between staying at east side and west side? Railay West features a beautiful beach (where you can have a picnic/swim/sunbathe) and as the name suggests, it is a perfect spot to watch sunset. In comparison, Railay East is a narrow beach and the home of mangrove trees, basically it means that you shall not expect superb view and beach activities. The hotels at Railay West are generally more expensive. However, the island itself is not very huge and you can just spend 10 mins walking from east side to west side or vice versa.
Ao Nam Mao.
Ao Nam Mao.
Located at Railay East. A lovely place to stay, clean and spacious room. The swimming pool is also a highlight of the stay, though we would prefer to immerse ourselves in seawater instead. Did I mention that the breakfast buffet was awesome? Absolutely love the omelette!
Attractions
Phrang Nang Cave Beach
The most beautiful beach in Railay. Stepping on the white soft sandy beach is the most comforting activity ever. The cave itself is an interesting place to explore. I could have spent whole day here, just to chill around.
Ao Nang
We spent the whole day exploring Ao Nang. It was much busier and livelier than Railay. You could shop for plenty of interesting stuffs and trendy swimwear at the main street. We also treated ourselves a relaxing massage at Haven Guesthouse. Their service was superb and the experience was indeed heavenly good, highly recommend if you are looking for authentic Thai massage. Walking further down the street and you will reach Ao Nang Beach =)
Beautifully painted bowls made from coconut shells.
Tiger Cave
We took a tuk tuk from Ao Nang to Tiger Cave, the official price stated was about 1200 baht but you can always bargain. The journey took about half an hour (or more, I couldn't really remember because we were enjoying the music on tuk tuk). Then the real challenge came - 1237 steps to the top! On average, people spend about 45 mins to 1 hour to reach the top, and we were slightly below average, oops. It was very tiring for people who don't exercise often like us as some steps were really steep. We had to take multiple breaks in between to catch our breath. But hey, don't give up because the spectacular view on top would worth the efforts.
Hong Islands
We signed up the snorkeling package for 1600 baht per person (inclusive of the entrance ticket to National Park). Departing from Railay, we visited 4 places in total (one island for swimming, two snorkeling spots and lastly Hong Lagoon). Due to low tide, we were not able to snorkel at Hong Lagoon but we were compensated with another snorkeling area (but definitely not an ideal place for beginners as the water were shallow and it was the home of sea urchins, kinda dangerous!).
Railay West Beach
After the fun but exhausting snorkeling trip, we were back to our favourite Railay. After cleaning ourselves up, we were back to the beach again, and this time to Railay West Beach for a stunning sunset.
Railay Princess Restaurant
The first few restaurants we encountered after coming back from Phrang Nang Beach. Too famished to walk further down the street, we decided to randomly pick one to fill our stomach. The food was not bad (mango sticky rice was really good though) and not too expensive. I would describe the meal as decent, not really spectacular.
Massaman Restaurant
Recommended by the staff from Haven Guesthouse. The food didn't disappoint, especially the papaya salad and steamed fish. I was a happy girl back in Krabi because I got to enjoy seafood everyday.
Only available from Fri to Sun, so plan your trip well. Not going to describe much as we all know that night market is the best place to try out local food.
Restaurant at Railay East
Sorry, but I really forgot what's the name of the restaurant! So just gonna share the food photos here!
Bamboo Bar Railay
As the name suggests, it is a lovely bar made of woods and bamboos, an ideal place to spend your evening. Love the live music performance here!
Thanks for patiently reading the post! It was an awesome trip with this bunch of awesome girls!
