Johor Bahru - Bev C and Chaiwalla & Co.

Not the first time going to JB, but it's the first time I got out of City Square and did cafe hopping. I was warned regarding the crime rates in JB (even though I am a Malaysian). In fact, as long as you are alert enough and carry your bag cautiously, it is more unlikely for you to be target of the robbers.

More and more Singapore residents like to explore JB especially since the currency exchange rate becomes more favourable. Thus, it is not surprising the pricings in JB are higher than other parts of Malaysia, but still the food or things here are still cheaper than Singapore.

Both cafes I visited on that day are within walking distance from City Square, around 15-min walk (provided that you do not get lost like we did).

How to walk from City Sqaure?
Exit the mall from McDonald, turn left and walk straight, turn right into Jalan Segget, then continue on Jalan Hiok Nee, you will see Chaiwalla Cafe on your left. Continue straight and you will find Bev C on your right.

We ordered the signature Thai milk tea with pearls and Vietnamese coffee with coffee jelly. The staff was super firendly and gave us a short briefing on the ordering procedures and products available. Don't be shy to ask for recommendations (and photos taking), the staffs are more than willing to help.

It is an outdoor cafe! We were so lucky that it only started raining after we left the cafe. =) The cafe looked different from the photos I viewed online, could you spot what's missing from the photos I took? YES, WHERE WAS THE CONTAINER ON TOP? The staff told us that the cafe was undergoing renovation and would be moved to the opposite open ground. Ah, I see I see.

Just less than 200 m away from Chaiwalla (further down on the same street), you will spot Bev C. Bev C might be mistaken as an ordinary clothing boutique from its appearance, the cafe is actually hidden on the second floor. I think their fashion design is really cool and chic, trendy girls looking for bold designs will have fun time exploring.

Greeted by the friendly staff, we were led to the second level. You will be hard-pressed not to fall in love with this cafe.  The first thing that caught my eyes was definitely the bed mentioned by almost every bloggers! Felt like jumping on it, oops, it was just my secret wish, haha. Perhaps it's a weekday, we were the only guests in the cafe, I absolutely enjoyed myself in the peace, what a great escape from the crowds and hectic life in Singapore! It was drizzling outside, which made the cafe seemed even more cozy.

We ordered the popular Chocolate Mint Pie (RM12.90), which was claimed to be the most instagrammable pie from the cafe.  The taste was rather decent.  Too bad that we were still full from the drinks we had in Chaiwalla, so we didn't get to try the famous espresso cubes with milk, next time maybe!

This is my favourite corner in the cafe, haha. Sitting there, blanking my mind, examining the pedestrians... Life to be like this!
