Took an early flight from Danang to Ho Chi Minh and it meant that we would have an additional full day in Ho Chi Minh (HCM). We booked our airport transfer service with Hoi An Express at 7 SGD.
Accommodation
Address: 195 Bui Vien St, Pham Ngu Lao ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh, Ho Chi Minh, 70000.
We stayed in a standard room for 1,500,000 vnd for 2 nights. The stay was good for value. To be honest, we weren't saving a lot from accommodation as we opted for private room instead of hostels. The hotel is located at the famous backpack street (Bui Vien Street), a crowded and lively place for night life. It is also highly accessible to tourist attractions nearby.
Attractions
We signed up for tours on the following days, thus we decided to explore the city on foot this day. The weather was insane but we were well-trained during the trips, haha.
Independence Palace/Reunification Palace
Address: 135 Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa, Phường Bến Thành, Quận 1, Hồ Chí Minh 700000, Vietnam.
Opening Hours: 7.30 to 11am, 1 to 4pm daily
Entrance Fee: 3000 vnd
It has lush garden, antique furniture, secret rooms and beautiful architecture. Even if you don't know much about Vietnamese history, it is still a good place to visit to. What we did was sticking to a tour group nearby and eavesdropped the guide's explanation. Not a very nice act so please don't learn from us, haha.
Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral
Address: 01 Công xã Paris, Bến Nghé, Quận 1, Bến Nghé Quận 1 Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam.
It was a regret that we didn't pay a visit to the Pink Church (which was a hype on Instagram). Nonetheless, this Cathedral was stunning as well. Built by French colonists, following their conquest of the city, the building has a lovely design that shows off its influence from French civilization and is highly picturesque.
Saigon Central Post Office
Address: 125 Công xã Paris, Bến Nghé, Quận 1, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam. Not far from the cathedral, standing there is another beautiful French-influenced building - Saigon Post Office. It is still a functioning post office and you are more than welcomed to send a letter/postcards from here.
People’s Committee Building
Address: 86 Le Thanh Ton Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City 70000, Vietnam.
Another architectural marvel in HCM. Unfortunately, it is a government workplace and is not opened for public. However, the building still fascinates the tourists by its exterior design and makes a perfect photograph background.
Others worth-visiting place also includes Saigon Opera House (we stopped by but didn't take any good photo as the sky turned dark) .
