We did the tour with An Travel. We only signed up for tours after we arrived in HCM. There were so many travel agencies trying to promote their packages to you along the backpack street. We didn't really do any research but randomly walked into a more reliable-looking shop (LOL, how did we tell right?) From what I remember, the tour costed around 10 to 20 USD, not too expensive.
Our buffet breakfast provided by the hotel.
We were picked up from our hotel at 8am by our tour guide. His name was Kuan or something with the similar pronunciation. This guy was seriously hilarious and kept addressing the whole group of us as his family. Haha. We were brought to a temple on the way to My Tho. Totally had no idea what's the name of it but it's quite photogenic with the delicate details on the building.
It looks pretty amazing, right?
After a long bus ride, we finally reached our destination - My Tho, which serves as the entrance to Mekong Delta. Firstly, we took a boat to Phoenix Island/Unicorn Island, sorry, I was confused with the names of the islands. The first place we visited was a coconut candy factory. We were shown the traditional way of making coconut candy from scratch. Tasted a number of flavours of coconut sweets, they were tasty and would make a lovely souvenir.
Kuan wore a flower on his head, haha, so cute!
Boiling the coconut mixture.
Cutting and packing the coconut sweets.
I dare you to try this!
After that, we had a horse cart ride to our lunch place. The trip was a little bumpy. Lunch was included in the tour package, nothing too spectacular. You can take a short nap on the hammock or cycle around the small village after lunch.
A group of tourists from India who requested to take a photo together.
After that, we continued our journey to another island. There was a bridge completely made from bamboo and you could challenge yourself walking through it. I could assure you that it wasn't that scary and it was rather steady, perhaps you just have to do it slowly to maintain your balance.
It was quite fun and no worries, by holding on the bamboo railing, you won't fall into water.
Our next stop was a bee farm where we tasted the honey harvested locally.
This was certainly the highlight of the bee farm. It was quite heavy and I was worried that I might drop it.
We were served hot honey drinks and yummy snacks.
Followed by a short ride on long tail boat rowed by Vietnamese lady. I really admire these ladies who are tough and strong. They will usually ask for tips, not an obligation but it is good to give, the amount doesn't really matter.
Finally we ended the tour with the traditional music show and fruits feast.
I think the photos today didn't justify the beauty of Mekong river. For me, I think this tour is optional, you can always skip this if you do not have enough time. Anyway, we had a great time with An Travel and we decided to sign up for their Cu Chi Tunnel Half-day Tour, which would be featured in the next post!
