Greetings from Macau! We decided to take a short 2D1N trip to Macau from Hong Kong (most people will do this as well).
Our ferry to Macau.
Accommodation
It belongs to Galaxy Macau (connected to main buildings of Galaxy Macau), hence transportation is not an issue as there are multiple shuttle buses available to major attractions in Macau. But the pricing is move lovely than other hotels under the same company, hehe.
Attractions
Macau Casino
It doesn't matter which one you visited, in fact, you can visit most of them, haha! 金碧辉煌 (Sparkling gold) is the only description that I could think of. Really amazed by the interior design of each casino! Even you are not interested in trying your luck to gamble, it is still an eye-opening experience visiting different casinos.
The most spectacular show that I had ever watched! Don't be thrown off by the expensive price, the show offers a myriad of wonderful and thrilling performances. The show is only available on certain days, usually falls on weekends, kindly check while planning for your Macau trip. You are gonna to regret if you miss this one.
Ruins of St. Paul's 大三巴牌坊
This landmark of Macau brought back a lot of childhood memories - 澳门街, my favourite TVB drama back then. It was really difficult to get a good shot here because there were so many tourists! Apart from the Ruins of St Paul's, it was fun exploring the European-styled buildings around as well.
Rua da Felicidade 福隆新街
From its humble appearance nowadays (at least on the day we went, it was deserted), it was hard to imagine this place was once a place of prostitution, gambling, opium and drinking (red light district). It had translated into a shopping street, but the signature red doors and window panes still stand out well, especially in photos.
Food
Restaurant Dumbo 小飞象葡国餐厅
Address: Rua do Regedor, n 312 Hei Loi Tang Plaza, R/C, Loja A Macau, Macau.
Opening Hours: 11.45am to 11pm
As a former colony of Portugal, there is no reason to miss Portuguese cuisine here. There are a lot of better but more expensive Portuguese restaurants out there, but we decided to go for something more affordable (to be honest, it is still considered as expensive...). We ordered set meal recommended for 4 to 6 people. Almost every dish was labelled as "Portuguese-styled" but I wasn't sure if they were truly authentic as I had never tried Portuguese food before and hence no benchmark could be set for comparisons. The portion was huge, definitely more than enough for 6 persons. However, I wasn't particularly impressed by the taste, my only favourite was roasted pigeon as it was crispy and fragrant. Would't recommend this place.
Free buns and butter.
Portuguese-styled egg tarts.
烧牛仔肉 or braised beef.
蒜茸烧酿乳鸽 or roasted pigeon.
Portuguese-styled chicken.
Portuguese-styled fish.
There are numerous branches in HK and Macau, but in fact it was originated from Macau! The most notable dish to try is “Double-Skin” Steamed Milk Pudding or 双皮奶 in mandarin. You can also top it up with sweetened red beans. Love the smooth texture and rich creamy taste. One bowl of dessert like this after meals is the best choice ever.
Steamed Milk Pudding (双皮奶)
Red Bean Steamed Milk Pudding (红豆双皮奶)
Pork Bun (猪扒包)
My little bro was so cute back then! Miss home so much while typing this post.
Sheng Li Tea Restaurant 胜利茶餐室
Address: 94 R. dos Mercadores, Macau.Opening Hours: 7.30am to 10pm daily
Pork chop bun from Tai Lei Loi Kei is much more well-known, but my local friend in HK actually recommended this coffee shop instead. Compared to the grilled pork from Tai Lei Loi Kei, the pork bun here comes with fried pork chop. I find it rather dry, probably because there wasn't any sauce. Hmm... not very impressed. Other than pork bun, it also serves a wide range of food such as soup noodles (公仔面) and sandwiches.
The signature pork chop bun.
Tai Sing Kung Liang Cha 大声公凉茶
Tai Sing Kung translates to loudspeaker in Chinese. Probably it means that even if you have sore throat, you can gain your voice back after drinking the homemade herbal tea? Nonetheless, it is able to quench your thirst on a burning hot day.
Hide Yamamoto
Address: Shop 1091, Level 1, The Boulevard at Studio City.
Opening Hours: 12pm - 3pm (last order at 2:30pm); 5:30pm - 11pm (last order at 10:20pm)
This was the most expensive meal throughout our HK and Macau trip (even with the complimentary discount vouchers). Owned by the winner of the Global Chef Award, Chef Hide Yamamoto, an authentic, amazing Japanese dining experience is almost guaranteed. Be prepared for the bill to be much more than what you will normally pay in a typical Japanese restaurant but it's definitely worth the experience if your budget allows.
Address: Shop 10, SOHO, Level 2, The Shops at The Boulevard, City of Dream.
Opening Hours: 11am to 2am daily
Owned by two really famous HK singers, in fact, we used to play their CD in the car and my little bro would be singing along while he was still a chubby kid. A more luxurious version of traditional Chinese cuisine. The food was pretty up to standard!
Everyone knows this and everyone buys from here! We visited the branch at 官也街 (Rua do Cunha), the well-known souvenir street. You can do food sampling and shopping here.
Don't forget to try their Portuguese-styled egg tart, so yummy!
It was a short tip in Macau yet another memorable one! =)
