Finally ~ Finally ~ Have been planning the trip for quite a while but just couldn't make it due to issues such as wet weather, wrong season etc And this was a really spontaneous and we gambled our luck because we weren't even sure if all the paddy fields had been harvested. Sekinchan is a small town, famous for its paddy fields, located around 1 hour and 15 mins from the city centre. The Chinese name, 适耕庄, means "suitable for plantations". Click here to check the paddy plantation schedule. If you think that sekinchan is only about paddy fields, then you are so wrong because it definitely offers more than that!
Pantai Redang or Redang Beach was our first stop. This place has become a must-visit place recently with a lot of beautiful photos taking spots. Bagan Fishing Village is actually just next to the beach and the famous wish-making temple is within the area too. Yeah, 3 popular attractions at one time! Let's take a look at the must-do things here:
1. Coca-cola Container Cabin
It sells cold drinks and Sekinchan-related souvenirs such as key chains, photo frames, postcards etc. The swings outside the shop are good for photos. Too bad that the top floor was not opened for visitors during our visit, else it would be a good spot to enjoy the scenery of the beach.
2. Bagan Fishing Village
We just took photos of it from Redang Beach. But I am sure that it would be fun to actually explore the village. Love the colourful fishing boats and how the colours add vibrancy to the quiet and calm village.
3. Lazing around
Whether on hammock, swing or chair. It's fun to look at the kids playing around, people taking photographs, or just simply look up to the blue sky.
This seems fun. Not sure if people bad at balancing like me will fall down or not.
4. Make a wish
It's not difficult to spot the tree entangled with red ribbons. Join the fun to get the red ribbon from the temple, write down your wishes and throw them up to hang on the tree. The hinger you throw, the more likely your wish is going to come true. However, my skill was so lousy that I only hoped that it wouldn't drop on the floor and luckily it didn't, yay. The gorgeous red colour makes a good background for photos.
5. Iconic Board stating "I Love Sekinchan"
According to my friends, if you do not take photo with this board, don't ever say that you have visited Sekinchan before, haha. The blue sky and turquoise sea make the photo gorgeous and lively.
6. Snacking
There are a couple of stalls selling prawn crackers and various snacks. What caught our attention was the fried ice-cream. Hadn't seen this for ages, thus we were very excited to see this! Two flavours available, yam and vanilla. We ordered yam and it was yummy!
7. Buy souvenirs
Apart from the coca-cola container shop, there are stalls along the beach selling pretty souvenirs. I really fell in love with these little bottles filled with colourful sands, especially those with stunning pastel colours. One costs RM12, buy 2 get 1 free while buy 5 get 5 free.
That's all for my visit to Pantai Redang, next up will be about the main attraction - the paddy fields itself, til then!
