Ho Chi Minh 3 - Cu Chi Tunnel

The must-do trip in Ho Chi Minh because Cu Chi Tunnel represents an important piece of history in Vietnam. It is a immense connecting underground tunnels built by the communists during Vietnam War. Again, we signed up our tour with An Travel as we had a good experience with them to Mekong River on the previous day. This time round, we only went for a half-day trip as we had to rush for our evening flight to Phu Quoc. It was a regret that we would have to give War Remnants Museum a pass, people usually pay a visit after Cu Chi Tunnel day trip in order to appreciate the history more. Some people also do a full-day tour comprising of Cu Chi Tunnel and temple of Cao Dai (an unique religion established in Vietnam), which was what I wanted to go for initially because I actually studied about Cao Dai in school.

We stopped by a local souvenir shop which sells paintings and art pieces made by the locals.

The tour started with an educational video tour to give you a brief background of Vietnam war, the origins and structures of Cu Chi Tunnel. After that, the tour guide brought us around and showed us the unique features of the tunnel such as the traps and hidden entrance. I was really amazed by the intelligence and creativity of Vietnamese.

Do you know what's this for?

The Vietnamese soldiers would hide inside and emerge unexpectedly to kill the enemy.

Even thought the hole looked small, with the correct skills, even a tall man could go in without troubles. A Spanish guy in our group tried and it worked as well.

More traps displayed in the area.

Shooting is also another popular activity here. The prices of the bullets are shown in the photo.

The kitchen.

Tapioca snacks before we left the place.

Not many photos from the trip but it is definitely a must-visit place or else it would be embarrassing to declare that you had conquered Vietnam. =)
